This particular zombie appears in every last one of our discussions of this topic, and it always wants to eat our brains. Let us arise therefore, with the machete of truth, and decapitate this one for good and all.

One of my gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week:
-
Across our fair Republic, a vast army of 60-watt intellectuals have now banded together to flicker dimly in the gathering twilight, having mistaken themselves for the dawn.

What am I to do, God?
Where am I to go, Christ?
Whom shall I serve, Spirit?
Father, Son, Holy Spirit,
Prepare me to sacrifice myself for others. For Opportunities to Serve -
Smash us, dear Lord. Smash us and then work your holy repairs. We have sought to repurpose ourselves with purposes apart from you, and for this we are truly sorry and we do humbly repent.
Reverse our unnatural ways, Father.
Show us the way back home, Son of God.
Fill us afresh, Holy Spirit,
That we might always be poured out.Amen.
For Brokenness as We Confess -
As a worker ends his day under the warm spray of a shower, Holy Spirit we too cease our labors. Come to us, clean us, refresh us. We have labor in vain when we labor without you. Renew us to begin your work, not our own. We long to be covered and filled with your holy presence, as you procede from the Father and the Son, in whose name we pray. Amen.
For an Outpouring of the Holy Spirit -
Holy Father, disorganize our plans.
Chosen Son, make us creators, not producers.
Blessed Spirit, set us on a path, not a highway.
We ache for purpose.
In your hour, God, give us your purpose.A Prayer for Planners -
To the One who is never idle and never busy,
Slow us down to hear you.
Stop us now to see you.
Hold us here to feel you.
All thank be to the Holy Three in One.A Prayer for the Busy
